Submitted by Ruthann Marquis Ruthann is a member of MPS.  She was recently on the receiving end of someone’s extraordinary generosity and she wanted to share her experience with all of us.   I want to share something really nice that someone did for me!  On my quest to finish all of my PIPs (projects in process-I just made that up!), I needed more background fabric for making some additional blocks from Dawn White’s class on the Secrets of the Quick Curve Ruler, taught in July of 2018. (Of course, my quilt was getting bigger!) I looked at three different shops and when I went to AlohaRead More →

2020 Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show-Virtual

Submitted by Liz M. The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show is held the second Saturday of July each year. This year, July 11, marked the 45th anniversary of the show. Due to COVID-19 cancellations, the show used the internet and social media to hold the show virtually. A virtual show is not the same as an in-person show but the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and The Stitchin’ Post teams put a lot of work into sharing quilts and information with quilters around the world. During the week prior to the show, 12 quilts were shared each day and two demonstrations were posted on The Stitchin’ PostRead More →

Submitted by Dianne McD with help from Deb Messina In late 2018, MPS received a grant from an organization that was closing it’s doors.  The purpose of the grant was to fund the making of 271 pillowcases.  These pillowcases are used by Oregon Children’s Protective Services for police officers and social workers who must remove children from their homes in emergency situations.  Without these pillowcases, children are given black garbage bags in which to pack their belongings.  The pillowcases are meant to replace the garbage bags and provide a small bright spot in a traumatic time.  And the children get to keep them.  Deb MessinaRead More →

Submitted by Jacque Ervin. Jacque is a long time member of MPS and a very talented quilter. We asked her to be our guest contributor for this fifth Wednesday of the month. I don’t know about you, but I am missing my trips to the fabric stores. I often would go just to visit without any real intention to buy anything, just to be inspired. I just want to look, to feel, to smell. If I happen to see something (which, let’s face it, would be most of the time) then I would purchase an amount, or maybe start a new project. Shopping in my stash, whileRead More →

Submitted by Liz M. Last week, Dianne wrote about the shops she has visited during her time on the road. My husband and I traveled to Maui for two weeks in February and I had also planned a post on quilt shops for this week. I agree with her that it is so fun to explore new places and enjoy the personality of each shop! As we planned the trip to Maui, my husband asked if there were any quilt shops on the island. A quick internet search turned up three shops. One each in Lahaina, Kihei and Kahului. I was able to visit theRead More →
