Nestled amidst the serene landscapes of the Alton Collins Retreat Center, the 2024 Metropolitan Patchwork Society (MPS) Quilting Retreat unfolded during the second weekend of April, weaving together threads of creativity, community, and camaraderie. Against the backdrop of nature’s splendor, attendees embarked on a journey of quilting exploration, where stitches transformed into stories, and fabric became a canvas for artistic expression.
The tranquil ambiance of the retreat center provided the perfect setting for a weekend of quilting immersion. Surrounded by lush greenery, participants found themselves transported to a realm where time seemed to slow down, allowing for uninterrupted focus on their craft. Throughout the retreat, the air buzzed with the sound of sewing machines humming in harmony and the rustle of fabric being lovingly pieced together.
In addition to honing their quilting skills, participants seized the opportunity to explore new horizons and push the boundaries of their creativity. Whether experimenting with bold color palettes, intricate appliqué designs, or innovative quilting motifs, attendees embraced the spirit of exploration and innovation, fueling their passion for the craft.
Beyond the quilting room, the retreat offered leisurely nature walks. Attendees reveled in the simple pleasures of sharing meals, swapping stories, and basking in the warmth of newfound friendships. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the retreat center came alive with the glow of laughter and the warmth of our work lamps, creating memories that would be cherished for years to come.
As the retreat drew to a close, there was a bittersweet sense of farewell mingled with anticipation for the quilting adventures that lay ahead. As they bid goodbye to the retreat center, attendees carried with them not only the quilts they had created but also the enduring spirit of fellowship that had enriched their quilting journey.
A big THANK YOU Kim T and Deb G for all their hard work in planning the retreat. And also to Joyce C for documenting the good times. You can watch a short slideshow of our time together by clicking on the button below. It starts with Joyce climbing out from under the tables after plugging in sewing machines. It’s a dirty job, but someone has to do it…..
