What would you do if you had a “hoard” of old quilts and a craft shed that needed furnishing? Well, Emily of “Style by Emily Henderson” decided to use hers to upholster her benches and stools in her newly refurbished art barn.
Ruthann recently sent us this article that shows how Emily acquired the quilts and how she then used them to brighten up her new craft shed. It’s an interesting read, and will make you think about old quilts in a new light. You can read the article by clicking this button.
Read the ArticleAnd if you’d like to take a trip down the proverbial rabbit hole, you can follow her entire process of taking a dirty old barn and turning it into a bright and cozy space to inspire creativity for herself and her children. Just follow her links in this “before and after” article to see everything she did. What a fun place to “play”!!
So what do you think? Great idea? Or does this repurposing give you pause? Let us know in the comments below.
Thanks to Ruthann for bringing this to our attention!
This was a fun look at a way to use old quilts. Thanks Ruthann for sharing! I especially like the stools, so clever!
I think it is time to repurpose quilts that I made in the 1970’s, maybe several from the 80’s and 90’s. Polyester batting, no labels besides a tiny embroidered initials and date. Hand quilted but nothing to brag about. I’m going to investigate the Community Warehouse – they love donated furniture, household goods, linens, blankets: they have two warehouses. People who have lost everything and people who have finally found housing but have no furnishings are invited to pick out anything and everything they need to set up a home; the people are pre-screened and the items are all free.
(Please check out Community Warehouse before you take usable items to Goodwill or set them out for “free.”)
Mim, thanks for this additional resource for community service! Please let us know what your investigation reveals.
The craft room was light, bright and the repurposed quilts added softness. But where is the clutter? When a work is in process in my sewing room, there can be piles of fabric all over. I am always working on the balance between enjoying the project process with fabric all over and trying to keep the area a little organized for sanity.
