Dear MPS members,
At this time of thanksgiving and as the “big day” is only a day away, I hope that we can appreciate all that enriches each of our lives. We are rich with family and friends. We all enjoy an abundance of creativity and probably a bounty of fabric choices within our stash. We drink up opportunities to learn, as well as to share what we are working on and have plans to tackle. We revel in the generosity of our fellow guild members and Board that help us grow vibrantly as quilters. We bask in the colors and textures of works in progress and those filling the shelves of our imagination. We have much to be thankful for, indeed!
As your current MPS Chair, I am grateful for each of you! This fantastic quilt guild would be absolutely nothing without our amazing members and outstanding Board members. We have a good thing going, and have for almost 25 years! That is a perfect lead in to share that 2024 will be a year of celebration for the Metropolitan Patchwork Society as we acknowledge the past quarter of a century of creative energy! There will be a team of members that will plan a special season of celebration to mark our silver anniversary as a guild. Who wants to be part of this fun team? Please reach out to me or any of the Board members to let us know of your interest. We are certain to have a year of partying!!!!
And speaking of teams, I want to let you know that the Programs team is hard at work already planning what we will experience in 2025. Yes, that’s correct! Most of 2024 has already been planned and it will be rich with learning and growing opportunities, and work has already begun for the following year. Who is on that team, you ask? Well, let me share that with you! Liz McElhinny leads the team and April Campbell, Jean Kelly and Nancy Watts are active members– all working for our guild. May I just say, thank you? I am so grateful for their hard work and overflowing focus to create a varied and fascinating lineup of programs.
A few other things….
There is no general meeting in December. There will still be Inspirations on the 1st Tuesday evening, Coffee Chat on the 2nd Tuesday morning and Dessert Hour on the 3rd Tuesday evening. Saturday Sew will happen on December 2nd at Tigard Ace Sew and Vac. See the website for details on all of the above.
MPS is part of Quiltfolk’s guild program. Quarterly, they send something to our guild and regularly offer a coupon code to our members for a discount at their online store. Until December 31st MPS members will receive 15% off of an order when you use the coupon code GUILD28. I have already done some holiday shopping on their site and I bet that you might find something there, too!
And, our November general meeting will be the much-anticipated reveal for our 2023 MPS Quilt Challenge, Heritage on a Small Scale. The meeting will be hybrid in nature, however it will be organized like our Inspirations. Linda G (another person to be very grateful for!) will show pictures of the challenge quilts and the creators (YOU!) will either be able to share on screen or in person details about your challenge quilt. Linda will need those pictures sent via the website by no later than Saturday November 25th, so as to have sufficient time to work on her PowerPoint presentation. I, for one, can’t wait to see what is shown and be able to learn more about our fabulous guild members.
On that note, I close with the warmest of Thanksgiving wishes and look forward to seeing you on the 28th for our November meeting.
Peace,
Ruthann
So thankful for the Guild and all the hard work the board does.
Best to all, Marilyn H
You are an amazing leader of this guild. This letter captures the essence of what this group has brought to my life. Transitioning to retirement was a piece of cake because of the peace I experience piecing with you all!!!
