MPS News You Can Use

Whew! It’s been a busy summer.  Hard to believe it’s August already…

MPS has been busy, too.  Here are a few things that are going on:

UFOWE HAVE A WINNER!!

Yes, our UFO challenge ended at our July meeting and the winner of over $300 was new member, Teresa Koster.  She completed six projects to get her name in the hat six times.  We had 15 runners-up who also received nice prizes.  Congratulations to Teresa and to everyone who participated in this fun challenge.  It sounds like we’ll be doing this again next year, so you can start thinking about what you’ve got stashed away just waiting for a good excuse to be finished.

MPS MYSTERY QUILT PROJECT

Mystery DetectiveAt the July meeting, Kathy White introduced us to our Mystery Quilt Project.  It’s called the “9-Patch, Over-Under Mystery Quilt” by Susan C. Druding.  Kathy gave us our first “clue” which gives us the quilt dimensions and recommendations for choosing the fabrics.  This project was met with great enthusiasm at the meeting, and all the copies of Clue #1 disappeared.  Lucky for everyone else, we have dedicated a whole page on the website to this project.  You can find a link to the page right on our home page, or you can go straight to the page here.  This will run through January of 2017 and you can join in at any time.

Membership Renewal

MembershipIt’s that time of year again when we all need to renew our MPS Membership.  You have the choice of using our new and improved paper form, or the new streamlined online form.  It will only take a minute or two to complete.  You also have the options to pay with a check or with your credit card through PayPal.  Just go to our Membership Page for all the information you need.  You have until September 30 to renew.  But there’s no time like the present to get this done and over with!

UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES

A couple of interesting items came to my attention today:

Ocean ArtistryFirst, Ocean Artistry, located in Yachats, OR, is sponsoring a show next spring and they have put out a call for art quilts.  This is a juried show and there are cash prizes.  We have many wonderful art quilters in the guild, so to all of you…Why not try this?  You can get all the information you need here or on their website.

Secondly, Jamie Wallen is coming to Boersma’s, a great quilt shop in McMinnville, in September.  He’ll be teaching long-arm quilting on Monday, September 19th and focusing on Ruler and Grid Work.  There isn’t much online about this, but you can go to Boersma’s website and find a phone number for more information.  I hear there are only a few spots left, so act now!  And just so you know, his workshop which is being held the previous three days is full.

That takes care of all the news for now.  Have a great August!
