My granddaughter loves Unicorns. This Timeless Treasures panel and Hoffman rainbow Backsplash Ombre for the flying geese make a colorful wall hanging. The Unicorn has some good sayings for all of us. The hearts are a 12×12 inch Birthday Banner.
First finish of the year. Just loved the playfulness. Quilted exquisitely by Teresa Koster.
The center block was a test block for our small quilt group project. The wedges of the Dresden are cut from strips the group made and distributed to each other. I ended up making it into a baby quilt for the Lullaby Quilt organization. I quilted it with hearts.
My nephew asked me if I could make a banner for their Trivia group. The group has been together for many years. They came up with the design. I worked with Jan Raith to digitize the design from the photo. I stitched it out on my embroidery module and made the banner when it was complete. My brother made the stand. Kinda crazy but they loved it.
The short title of this piece is 2020! Despite the isolation there was so much external noise: COVID, masks, social distancing, quarantine, Trump, election, electoral votes, debates, climate change, (fires), protest, BLM, and devastating deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and others. Zoom, GotoMeeting, Twitter. I was seeking nature.
First finishes for 2021. I used the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color each month to make 3 whale blocks. Originally these were to be stitched at our monthly CARES sew day at Montavilla Sewing Center in Lake Oswego. I ended up making twice as many blocks as need hence to three baby quilts. One big quilt was enough in my book.
This is a special project my wife, Jean and I worked on together. She wrote this special poem for me for my birthday, but couldn’t decide how to frame it. What better way than on a quilt?
