When you see the MPS Organizational Philosophy, you’ll find the first sentence reads: The founding board envisioned a guild that would provide members with opportunities for friendship, fellowship, education and sharing in an atmosphere of cooperation and teamwork. Fabric, books, thread. Quilts tops, quilt blocks, finished quilts. Gift certificates, quilt hoops, handmade items. Even a serger! The items to bid on, artfully arranged by organizer Mim Gray and her helpers, were many and varied at the guild’s annual potluck and silent auction, held last week during the March meeting. MPS members and guests responded with enthusiasm, and bidding was spirited on several items. Proceeds from the auction netted over $1200, all of which goes into the guild’s Vicky Arnold Memorial Program Fund, known as VAMPF. Vicky Arnold would certainly be pleased. That’s right.  Only 4 days!  Tuesday, March 22nd is the night of the big event.  Hope you’re gathering your dollar bills or digging around to find your checkbook.  We’ll also have a credit card reader there if that is more convenient for you.  The bidding begins at 6:00PM. While we’re bidding, we’ll fit in dinner and do a tiny bit of business.  There will be more than 100 items spread around the room waiting for our bids.  We thought we’d share more photos of a few of them. Beyond the welcome appearance of crocuses, daffodils, and daphne, the arrival of spring in the Portland metro area is heralded by a series of quilt shows. The first of these is coming up this weekend (Friday and Saturday, March 18 and 19): the 22nd Annual Airing of the Quilts at the Milwaukie Center. Described as a community quilt show, the Airing of the Quilts is not affiliated with a guild. The featured artist is Barbara Neill, whose talk, “Anything Goes,” is scheduled for Saturday, March 19, from 11:00 am to noon. Our annual Silent Auction is coming up in less than two weeks.  Tuesday, March 22nd to be exact.  Mim is busy putting together some wonderful items for our bidding pleasure.  We will have gift certificates from The Pine Needle, Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe, and Cool Cottons.  There are also a couple of lovely gift baskets from The Quilter’s Corner Store and Tea Time Calicos.
