Lisa Roberts Opens Her Studio

Painted Hills Quilt

We are proud to announce that our own Lisa Roberts is one of the featured artists in this year’s Portland Open Studios!  She entered the show and was the only fiber artist that was accepted.  The event takes place over the next two weekends (Saturday & Sunday)–October 8-9, and October 15-16 from 10 AM to 5 PM each day.

New Directions

Lisa has been quilting since she retired in 2009.  Her sister introduced her to quilting by suggesting they make a quilt as a college graduation gift for Lisa’s daughter.  From that point on, she was hooked.  She became interested in art quilting when she took a class in Colorado called “The Language of Color and Design”.  There she learned that she could trust her own instincts when it came to creating with fiber.

She joined MPS when she and her husband, Bill, moved from Colorado to Lake Oswego to be near their daughter, son-in-law, and new grandson.  She immediately volunteered to be our Program co-chair, and became a member of the Quilters On The Edge (QOTE) small group.  She is a prolific quilter and an inspiration to many of us.

Many of the quilts she will have on display will be of her own design.  The pictures here are just a preview of what she will be showing.  (If you click on the images, you can see a larger view.) The quilts will be for sale, along with several small items, such as desk calendars, pot holders, and note cards.

We are excited for Lisa and wish her the best as she shares her craft with Portland-area art lovers.

You can find out more about the PDXOS on their website.  The Tour Guide will serve as a ticket for two people for all four days.  So pick up a tour guide, grab a friend, and head out to enjoy some art this month.  Be sure to include Lisa’s studio in your tour!  She’d love to show you around….
