Marilyn Henderson saw this article in The Quilt Show newsletter and thought the rest of us would enjoy the story. This story was also included in the Quiltfolk magazine’s Utah edition.
I’ve included a link to the newsletter article. I also found another article about the Quilt Walk that includes a couple of videos and photos of a different quilt.
It’s a remarkable story. Thanks, Marilyn, for passing this along.

What a wonderful story from the past. The power of a quilt – one never knows the limit of a quilt’s uses. Thanks for sharing this event.
What a beautiful story. I hope to see that wonderful statue sometime. I have a special memory of the kind people of Panguitch. When I was a child (MANY years ago) my family was traveling in Utah. I experienced a terrible toothache and we were able to locate the only dentist in Panguitch who was able to relieve my pain. I’ve never forgotten the helpful people of this small town in Utah.
Fascinating story, and really wonderful that they created this park honoring those seven men and their quilts, and the amazing women that made them. Nice basis for an annual quilt festival.
