And we at MPS are very excited about it!
Jacquie fell in love with quilting in 2009 after seeing an exhibit of the quilts of Gee’s Bend. Their quirky, almost modern sensibility appealed to her, so she dusted off the sewing skills her mother taught her and set about learning to quilt. Jacquie found the emerging modern quilting movement and worked to develop her own voice and style as a modern quilter.
She loves to share what she’s learned and is a prolific speaker and quilt teacher. The International Association of Creative Arts Professionals named her quilt teacher of the year in 2014. Jacquie is a leader in the modern quilting movement and is the Chairman of the Board of the international Modern Quilt Guild.
She uses quilting as a medium to express her commitment to anti-violence and the issues of poverty and diversity. She loves being a part of the larger quilting community and is passionate about recruiting young and new quilters to join the community that has given her so much.
MPS is collaborating with the Northwest Quilters Guild in bringing Jacquie to Portland. She will be speaking at the Northwest Quilters general meeting on Monday, September 12, and we are invited to attend that meeting. (A small fee of $5 will be charged.) Northwest Quilters will also host three workshops on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. You can see the list of workshops here.
Then on Thursday, September 15, MPS will host Jacquie’s “Slice and Insert Improv” workshop. You can find all the information you need and can register on our Workshops page. All four workshops will be available to MPS members for the “member” price. PLEASE NOTE: This workshop will also be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. This way, Jacquie can keep her workshop space set up in one place for her entire stay.
Several MPS members have taken Jacquie’s workshops and can tell you how much they enjoyed them. Jacquie is relaxed in her teaching style and very encouraging to her students while she leads them to new realms of the quilting world. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from one of the best.
