I know this is super last minute, but I wanted to give any interested party a chance to catch this opportunity.
Cascade Composers’ first show of the season features original music by Walter Saul while projecting images of quilts by Ann Harwell, a North Carolina quilt artist, on a large screen. Here’s an excerpt from the announcement:
Saul’s music, by turns playful and joyful, and somber and reflective, brings to life the stories behind Harwell’s art, each artist adding layers to the other’s vision, creating something greater than the sum of its parts. The work, a musical tour of 114 quilts, takes its form from the galleries of the quilt catalogue: Earth, Kaleidoscope, Sun Quilts, and Astronomy. Within the galleries are progressions from man-made structures (churches, cathedrals, cities) to trees, and from grand natural scenery to the delicate intimacy of flowers…Performed by Walter Saul (piano), Jane Shelly (flute), and Daphne Saul (voice), the music, alone, would be an inspiring experience, but combined with the art quilts projected on a large screen, this will be a journey not to be missed.
This presentation takes place on this Friday, October 18th, 2024 at 7:30 PM in Room 75 of Lincoln Hall, which is a part of Portland State University. Tickets are $30 and $20 for seniors.
You can learn more about the Cascade Composers and buy tickets using the button below. I’ve also included a button which will take you to Ann Harwell’s website where you can see some of her art quilts.
