The Columbia Gorge Museum, which is located in Stevenson, Washington, is hosting a new exhibition, “Ms. Molly’s Voice: Family and Freedom Spoken in Fabric.” This remarkable showcase highlights the life and legacy of Ms. Molly, an enslaved woman whose extraordinary quilting talents documented her life, communicated with her community and the Underground Railroad, and expressed her unwavering love and commitment to her family.
The exhibition comes to us through the dedication of Ms. Molly’s third great grandson, Jim Tharpe. To celebrate this special event, we’ve been invited to attend the opening night on June 1, 2024, at 6:00 PM. Mr. Tharpe will be sharing the incredible stories behind these quilts, bringing to life the rich history and profound messages woven into each piece.
You don’t need to be a museum member to join this private opening. Simply RSVP using the button below to secure your spot. And if you’d like to learn more about the exhibit beforehand, you can visit the Columbia Gorge Museum’s website.
Can’t make it to the opening night? No worries! The exhibit will be on display through July 31, 2024, so you have plenty of time to visit and enjoy the beautiful quilts and the stories they tell.
Admission to the museum is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors. This might be the perfect occasion to plan a field trip with friends or fellow MPS members and immerse yourselves in this inspiring exhibition.
Thank you so much for alerting us to this!! It sounds fascinating!
