This year has been one big celebration here at the Metropolitan Patchwork Society (MPS) as we marked our 25th anniversary! Back in March, we invited everyone—MPS members and anyone else with a passion for sewing—to create some “Wonky Square” blocks. These quirky, playful blocks were to become part of a special quilt project, and as more and more blocks poured in, we soon realized we had something big on our hands. What started as one quilt quickly became four!
The design we selected, called Tipsy City Quilt, was chosen by Marcia S and Michelle N from Quilting Modern by Jacquie Gering and Katie Pedersen. Thanks to our fantastic contributors, over 100 blocks were stitched and assembled into four stunning quilts. Deb B and Marcia S pieced the blocks together, while Marcia S and Christie F quilted the final creations.
These four quilts found their homes at our October 22nd General Meeting, where we invited representatives from some remarkable local organizations that support adults and children in need, both here and internationally. We were thrilled to gift these quilts to Project Linus, Lullaby Quilts, Providence Medical Center Neonatal ICU, and CARES Northwest, knowing they’ll bring comfort and warmth to little ones in difficult times.
For those who attended, it was a heartwarming night of shared smiles and genuine gratitude—and, of course, some very happy quilt recipients!

Such joy! Sharing our passion of quilting with others in gifting. The four quilts are lovely. Thanks to those who pieced and beautifully quilted them.
What a great meeting that was! And, on top of all the info we received about charity quilts and where they go, MPS gave away our 4 quilts to very worthy organizations. Thank you Programs Team!
A lovely job designing the blocks into the full quilt and the quilting was lovely as well. Thank you
The best part was experiencing the joy and excitement the representatives for each charity expressed when they each accepted one of these quilts. Definitely a “feel good” moment for all involved. Very fun to make these, and as Heather said, thanks to all that spent the time putting them together and quilting them.
Let’s do it again! It was a fun project and the quilts turned out beautifully. Thank you so much for doing the assembly, quilting, and binding!
