Submitted by Dianne McD. Do you remember when you were in elementary school and returned in the fall, and how you always had to write a report about what you did over your summer vacation?  Me either–too long ago!  But I’ll attempt to emulate that report anyway. During the weekend of March 3rd-5th in 2023, MPS hosted a Spring Retreat at the Alton Collins Retreat Center which is set in the woods near Sandy, Oregon. Twenty-six of us gathered for two and a half days of piecework, handwork, and I even saw someone knitting.  The “sewing” room was huge and we all had plenty ofRead More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. Every time I hear someone say “You need to move out of your comfort zone…”, I want to gnash my teeth.  I’ve set up housekeeping in my comfort zone and I’m very happy there, thank you very much! On Tuesday, January 24, 2023, MPS hosted Frances Arnold as our speaker for the evening.  She spoke to us on the “Challenge of Challenges” and took us along on the journey of her challenge quilts beginning in the 1980’s to her latest quilt that was accepted in the 2023 Quilt Con show.  Before she began, she shared this quote from Richie Norton: It’sRead More →

The Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art at PSU is presenting an exhibit called “Weaving Data”.  The exhibit runs from January 24th to April 29th of 2023 and admission to the museum is free.  This exhibit explores the relationship between computing and weaving.  Did you know that the Jacquard weaving process used a form ofRead More →

Submitted by Dianne McD. I subscribe to the quilting publication called Quiltfolk.  It’s a beautiful magazine full of photos of quilts and quilters. I especially enjoy it because there are no advertisements in the magazine.  It’s issued quarterly, and each magazine focuses on one of our country’s states and the quilters that live there. Way back in October, I got my Issue No. 24 which was all about South Dakota.  Because the last three months were extraordinarily busy for me, I just recently got around to looking at it.  On page 9, there was the editorial letter that was written this time by Lauren DeLuca,Read More →
