Every gray January I make a ‘Spring’ quilt and this one will be added to the patio series quilts. During our January ice storm, I cleaned sew area cabinets and discovered a bundle of Jody Houghton fabrics. Seemed perfect for this year’s Spring quilt. Had to plan fabrics carefully as I was limited. Added the coral from my stash. Felt like a little relief from the gray and cold.

“Purple Rain” What do you do with a baggie of several hundred precut triangles? Sort by value. Search Pinterest for a layout Thanks to Becky Swick, I got to enjoy the gift of “purple rain”. White squares, some gray and the backside of black scraps to continue the ombré background look. Simple edge to edge ruler quilting finished the project. Number 4 Hopewell Hospice House quilt for 2024.

“Bloom” I was given stash from Becky Swick to use for my Hopewell Hospice House quilts. In the box were several finished blocks and strips of fabric. I made strip blocks and joined with the premade blocks using sashing. Borders were made from bits and pieces also found in the box. Enjoyed FMQ using rulers. Hope it brightens up someone’s room.

“Circle of Squares” I saw the block on a quilter’s blog but I do not remember whose it was. After I’d assembled the center of the quilt as I wanted it to appear I had to ponder for awhile just what I wanted to do to make it not square. My original plan was to make 12 blocks, one a month, until I did the math and realized that was a larger quilt than I wanted.

“Cathedral Fun” My friend is a Chaplin and their hospital had some unfinished quilts in various stages of completion before Covid shut everything down. I’ve offered to help complete some. Someone made this quilt with flying geese using the 3D Geese construction method. This leaves a pocket open along the angled edge. To eliminate the pockets, I turned down the edges as if making a Cathedral Windows pattern. Then added some echo quilting.

“Dawn Chorus” I saw the bird pattern on the Got Kwilts website and downloaded the pattern. I actually took the pattern and converted it to a paper pieced pattern. I paired it with a chain block from the book 101Fabulous Small Quilts from Martindale Press. I quilted with a leaf pattern with flannel on the back.
