On the warm evening of August 23rd, 2022, MPS held its annual Silent Auction in the Fellowship Hall of the Bethel Congregational Church in Beaverton, OR. With over 200 items up for bid, there was something for everyone. Besides many curated packets of fabric, there were quilt kits, books, puzzles, bags stuffed full of beautiful fabric with a pattern to go with them, a basket full of wonderful linens, and a 1940 Singer Featherweight sewing machine. I think I even saw a bottle of wine tucked inside one of the many baskets of goodies. All of these items were donated to the Guild.
MPS members and their many friends began rolling in around 6:15 PM and the bidding started. The room was buzzing with activity, but we also took advantage of one of the first times we were together in person since the pandemic and spent quality time visiting with friends we hadn’t seen in awhile. By 7:30, the bids were closed and the bid winners were collecting their prizes.
The proceeds of the auction go to the Vicky Arnold Memorial Program Fund, which pays for the speakers and presentations at our monthly Guild meetings. This auction brought in over $2000; so, we can look forward to being inspired by and learning from more high-quality speakers in the future. The MPS members do a great job of supporting our Silent Auction; especially Bette and Jan, who are our ultimate shoppers! When you’ve won so many bids that it takes a big cart to get your prizes to the car, you know you’ve done well.
A big, big THANK YOU to Heather P and Cydney G for organizing and curating the auction. Thanks to those who came early and helped set up the auction. And a special thanks to everyone who participated in the auction itself. We hope you are delighted with your prizes.
Oh….who won the Featherweight? I did!! I’m thrilled and can’t wait to get upstairs and play with my “new” toy!!!
Are you excited about your winnings? Do you know what you are going to do with them? Let us know in the comments below.
It was wonderful to see everyone in person! It was a great event and I took home some great items. As always, the guild members are fun, generous and helpful!
I was thrilled to win the Dresden Plate blocks from the 1940’s. Have been looking on line for vintage examples to mimic for sashing and finishing and recreate the original pink sashing. The blocks are all hand pieces. Plan to machine sew on my featherweight. Not sure of quilting though because I’m not a hand quilter. So appreciate the care and cleaning of them from Kim King! They are amazing.
Great fun! I won the basketful of linens. I think I outbid Gloria. I’d really wanted the basket.
Gloria, if you are interested in the linens I would love to gift them to you!
I too thought that it was a fabulous event for our guild and I came home with a mountain of fabric, which I will want/need to share with my soon-to-be daughter-in-law, who is also a maker. I have already used a small piece of one fabric to make a sleeve for a quilt. Congrats to all involved, with special appreciation for the good work that Heather and Cydney did!
I was amazed how much I ended up buying. Love every piece and can’t wait to create with some new to me fabrics. The quality is great
It was a great auction. It was so fun to see so many of you in person. I won the pinking shears! Had been looking at them online and was delighted to get a pair and support the guild in the process. I’ve already tried them out and the cut wonderfully. Thanks to the organizers for all the work and especially storing all the items prior to the auction and other sales.
Children’s quilts!
What fun we had! Thanks also to those guild members who helped with delivering the items, totaling, and helping put tables and chairs away. This guild stays vibrant because of all our wonderful members!
